She founded the Greenwich branch of the Women&#8217;s Social and Political Union (WSPU) in 1910, and was first arrested in 1911, when she was accused of obstructing the police in Parliament Square. In the period between 1910 and 1912, the WSPU embarked on a window-breaking campaign, which was a reaction to a number of disabled women&#8217;s suffrage laws that were not passed by the British Parliament.
